UMAMU Estate

Western Australia | Margaret River

Our Review

Chief executive Charmaine Saw explains, ‘An upbringing in both eastern and western cultures, graduating in natural science, training as a chef combined with a passion for the arts and experience as a management consultant have all contributed to my building the business creatively yet professionally.’ The palindrome ‘UMAMU’, says Charmaine, is inspired by balance and contentment. In practical terms, this means a sustainable approach to viticulture and a deep respect for the terroir. The plantings, dating back to '78, include cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, shiraz, semillon, sauvignon blanc, merlot and cabernet franc. -JAMES HALLIDAY
