Voyager Estate

Western Australia | Margaret River

James' Review

The late mining magnate Michael Wright pursued several avenues of business and agriculture before setting his sights on owning a vineyard and winery. It was thus an easy decision when he was able to buy what was then called Freycinet Estate from founder and leading viticulturist Peter Gherardi in 1991. Peter had established the vineyard in '78, and it was significantly expanded by Michael over the ensuing years. Apart from the Cape Dutch- style tasting room and vast rose garden, the signpost for the estate is the massive Australian flag pole - after Parliament House in Canberra, the largest flag pole in Australia. Michael's daughter, Alexandra Burt, has been at the helm of Voyager Estate for many years, supported by general manager Chris Furtado and a long-serving and committed staff. Michael is remembered as a larger-than life character, more at home in his favourite work pants and boots than a suit, and never happier than when trundling around the estate on a four-wheeler or fixing a piece of machinery. Exports to the UK, the US, Canada, Germany, Indonesia, East Africa, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong and China.

About

Voyager Estate is a small, second-generation, family-owned estate in Stevens Valley, Margaret River, Western Australia. Established in 1978, this year we celebrate 40 years since the original plantings. Currently undergoing full organic conversion, our Estate is one of Australia’s most ambitious and innovative producers of world-class Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. All wines are 100% estate-grown, made and bottled, and reflect the unique qualities of Stevens Valley, with its undulating slopes, warm summers and cooling maritime breezes. Our aim is to shine a light on what makes our unique place in Margaret River so special. Both through how we grow and make our wine, and how we share and experience it. In doing so, we hope to help lead the way in establishing this very special place as one of the world’s great wine regions and experiences.
