This 10ha property on the banks of the upper reaches of the Swan River was purchased by Laura Rowe and Derek Pearse in 1996. The original 4ha vineyard was expanded, and plantings now include chardonnay, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, verdelho, semillon, merlot, petit verdot and muscat. All wines are estate-grown. Several years ago they leased the restaurant area to Anthony and Annalis Broad, who now run Broads Restaurant at Upper Reach; the restaurant is encased by full-length glass doors and surrounded by a deck overlooking the vineyard. They have integrated the cellar door with the restaurant, the glass walls bringing vineyard views into the cellar door, where wines are tasted in Riedel glasses. Next they constructed a deck where visitors can relax and enjoy a glass or two, resulting in Gourmet Traveller WINE choosing Upper Reach as the Star Cellar Door in the Swan Valley.
