Owners Michelle Davies and Helen Armstrong had long nursing careers in palliative care. Michelle observes, ‘It teaches you that life is short, and if you have a dream, you must go ahead and do it.' The dream came true in 2008 when they purchased the 100ha property, including the already established vineyard. They ran into bad luck, with the vineyard flooded in '10, floods returning with incessant rain and fungal disease in '11. '12 was better, but even it had its challenges. One would hope things can only get better. For the record, the vineyard is planted to cabernet, shiraz, viognier, merlot, chardonnay and muscat. -JAMES HALLIDAY
