Dalwood

Our Review

The chain of events making the oldest winery the youngest isn’t far removed from the white rabbit appearing out of the magician’s hat. George Wyndham arrived in Australia in 1823 and promptly set about assembling vast agricultural holdings stretching from Inverell to the Liverpool Plains. He berated the Sydney Agricultural Show for holding the Wine Show in Feb, and for awarding gold medals that weren’t in fact 24-carat gold. In 1904, Penfolds purchased Wyndham Estate and renamed it Dalwood. In ‘67 Penfolds sold the winery and vineyard to Perc McGuigan, leaving McGuigan free to rename it Wyndham Estate. In Dec ‘17 TWE (aka Penfolds) sold the Dalwood brand to Sam and Christie Arnaout and Sweetwater Wines. The synergy of this assemblage is obvious. -JAMES HALLIDAY
