Our Review

Karen Williams has 3 vineyards and associated properties, all established in the 1960s. They are Hollydene Estate, Wybong Estate and Arrowfield; the latter one of the original vinous landmarks in the Upper Hunter. The 3 vineyards produce grapes for the Hollydene Estate and Juul labels. Hollydene also makes sparkling wines from the Mornington Peninsula. Exports to Germany, Indonesia and China.


Always a vision of perfection Hollydene Estate opened the Arrowfield vineyard to the public on February 17, 2014, and lies just 10 kilometres to the west of Jerry’s Plains and 20km east of the pretty little hub of Denman, gateway to the rich Upper Hunter Valley home of wines, equine and mines. A distinct respect for the property’s long history and its surrounds was maintained during the Hollydene development with the use of timbers from the original Bowman’s Crossing Bridge that once crossed the Hunter river and turpentine timber from the original wharf at Goat Island, Sydney. The timbers are a feature in the walls and ceilings of the restaurant and cellar door as well as the outdoor decking and alfresco area.

The Hollydene and Wybong Estate vineyards are two of the oldest and most iconic vineyards in the Upper Hunter. Combined with the historic Arrowfield Estate, the three vineyards provide Hollydene Estate Wines with Shiraz, Chardonnay, Semillon, Tempranillio, Sangiovese, Gewürztraminer and Verdelho grapes. Using grapes from all three vineyards and fruit bought in from the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria and Orange in NSW’s Central Tablelands, Karen Williams has assembled a portfolio of premium wines, sparklings and liqueur crafted together with her dynamic and new age Pokolbin-based winemaker Matt Burton. The range of premium wines from Hollydene Estate are produced from low-yielding, high-quality fruit. The best environmental practices are applied by the Estate’s highly experienced viticulturists in producing grapes that are picked at optimum quality and flavour. The wines are traditionally produced and then carefully cellared in Hollydene’s world class wine storage facilities.
