Smallfry Wines

The engagingly named Smallfry Wines is the venture of Wayne Ahrens and partner Suzi Hilder. Wayne is from a 5th-generation Barossa family; Suzi is the daughter of well known Upper Hunter viticulturist Richard Hilder and wife Del, former partners in Pyramid Hill Wines. Both have degrees from CSU, and both have extensive experience – Suzi was a consultant viticulturist, and Wayne’s track record includes 7 vintages as a cellar hand at Orlando Wyndham and other smaller Barossa wineries. Their vineyards in the Eden Valley (led by cabernet sauvignon and riesling) and the Vine Vale area of the Barossa Valley (shiraz, grenache, semillon, mourvèdre, cabernet sauvignon and riesling) are certified biodynamic/organic. -JAMES HALLIDAY
