Our Review
This is the business of retired veterinary surgeon Philip and real estate agent Jan Boyd Turner, founded 30 years after their first wine venture in 1974 when they purchased a property in the Clare Valley with 18ha of very old vines. Work commitments, and the travel time between their Adelaide activities led to a rethink, and the sale of the property. But the ambition to make wine was never far from the back of their minds. In 2004 they purchased Glengrove, a beautiful property in the high country of Kangarilla, 45kms from the Adelaide CBD. The 48ha of rolling hills includes a circa 1860 homestead and 11ha of roughly equal amounts of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir and merlot planted in '98. Phil Christiansen has been the contract winemaker since the first vintage in '04, Simon Parker producing the first Rose in '17. Around 550 dozen bottles are made each year, leaving 50 tonnes of grapes for annual sale. -JAMES HALLIDAY
