Sixth generation Barossan Trent Burge is the son of Grant and Helen Burge, a self-styled country boy who liked nothing better than exploring the family's 356ha of vineyards spread across the Barossa on his motorbike. Then cricket intervened, taking him to England on a cricket club programme each English summer, returning to Australia each English winter to work as a cellar hand and earn enough to sustain himself for the following 6 months. The endless summers ceased in 2006 when he joined the Grant Burge wine business full-time, learning every facet of winemaking and marketing. In February '16 Accolade acquired the Grant Burge business, making it inevitable that he would strike out on his own. The slick website, the high quality labelling and packaging of the Barossa Boy Wines bear witness to his experience in marketing. He says his grapes come from vineyards in special sites across the Barossa and Eden Valleys, and it's a fair bet the family vineyards will play a large role in that. In '17 he and wife Jessica welcomed their first child, the seventh generation now in place.
A sixth generation Barossa winemaker, our founder Trent Burge grew up in and on Barossa soil. Riding trail bikes around the vineyards, playing local cricket and footy, he had dirt under his nails and Barossa blood in his veins. The boy has grown to craft new stories in wine. Barossa Boy is his passion project; his heart worn proudly on his sleeve. Tales of generational wisdom and legendary old vines are blended with fresh perspective and a worldly, modern palate. Barossa Boy wines are devoted to the ultimate expression of the Barossa region’s signature varieties and distinctive characters. Each vintage brings the anticipation of a new chapter, and the opportunity to bottle the season’s tale from bud to harvest.
