Greg Cooley explains,‘All my wines are named after people who have been of influence to me in my 45 years and their influence is as varied as the wine styles - from pizza shop owners, to my greyhound's vet and South Australian author Monica McInerney.' I have to confess that I am taken by Greg's path to glory, because my move through law to wine was punctuated by the part-ownership of two greyhounds that always wanted to run in the opposite direction from the rest of the field.
Greg Cooley Wines is a wine, food and entertainment destination surrounded by vineyards in the heart of Clare.
Wines are designed with food, family and friends in mind and like Greg have an unerring knack for delighting and surprising their audience. Greg’s wines are a little special, a little different and only available direct via website, their annual wine lunch series or the more recently opened Cellar Door (April 2011).
Perhaps the best way to sum up Greg Cooley Wines is to say that while they make a lot of wines they don’t make a lot of wine! Total production is around 2,500 cases a year and for some wines as little as 100 dozen are made. Whilst the classic Clare varieties of Riesling, Shiraz and Cabernet are well represented, you’ll always find something a bit left of centre like Clare Pinot Noir; oaked Chardonnay, Sangiovese or a Merlot Cabernet Franc to peak your interest.
