Rymill Coonawarra

South Australia | Coonawarra

Our Review

The Rymills are descendants of John Riddoch and have long owned some of the finest Coonawarra soil, upon which they have grown grapes since 1970. In 2016 the Rymill family sold the winery, vineyards and brand to a Chinese investor. The management, vineyard and winery teams have remained in place and new capital has financed moves to improve the vineyards and winery. Winemaker Shannon Sutherland has experience in the Napa Valley, Beaujolais, Canada and Marlborough, as well as Great Western and the Hunter Valley in Australia. The winery building also houses the cellar door and art exhibitions, which, together with viewing platforms over the winery, make it a must-see destination for tourists. Exports to all major markets.

Rymill was established in 1974 by Peter Rymill, the great-grandson of John Riddoch, the founder of Coonawarra. Our vines sit on an ancient coastline, about one million years old, the limestone of which has evolved into terra rossa soil. The combination of Coonawarra’s unique soil and long cool ripening season is perfect for grape growing, and the region has become internationally renowned for producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. Rymill is committed to sustainability in a changing climate, and an investigation of innovative, low impact techniques in winemaking. By embracing our environment and caring for healthy vines, our vineyard allows us to capture great flavours in our wines. Our daily commitment to sustainable practices is guaranteeing the next generations will also enjoy the beauty of Coonawarra. Our commitment to sustainability in both the winery and vineyard is evident with our entwine accreditation from Freshcare and Sustainable Australia Winegrowing. Described as a ‘must visit’ by regarded wine critic James Halliday, our stunning winery and cellar door sits amongst our vineyards and grounds. The cellar door offers unique and unrivalled views of winemaking and viticulture with our multi-level observation decks. We invite you to visit and taste our wines, some of which are exclusive to the cellar door, and match it with a custom platter showcasing South Australian produce, available to graze while enjoying the gallery inside, or outside surrounded by our picturesque estate.

Cabernet, shiraz, sauvignon blanc, gewürztraminer.
