Our Review
Branches of the Kidman family have been part of Coonawarra viticulture since 1970, and long before that one of the great names in the Australian cattle industry. Tim, Philip and Mardi Kidman (brothers and sister) run a separate business from that of cousin Sid Kidman, with 40.2ha of cabernet sauvignon and 15.7ha of shiraz, planting the first 2ha of shiraz in 1970, and moving into wine production in 2003, albeit still selling the major part of the grape production. Roy the Cattleman (Cabernet Sauvignon) is a tribute to their paternal grandfather, who worked as a stockman for his uncle Sir Sidney Kidman. Exports to Sweden, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and China. -JAMES HALLIDAY
About
In 1920 Roy Kidman purchased a portion of the original “Yallum Park” grazing property established by John Riddoch, founder of the Penola Fruit Colony that we now know as the famous Coonawarra Wine Region. Roy became a respected breeder of prime beef cattle.
The Roy Kidman Wine Co is a family-owned company involved in growing winegrapes in Coonawarra since 1970. Shiraz grapevines originally planted by our grandfather, and subsequent plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, supply our Roy The Cattleman and Bar Over Box ranges of premium Coonawarra wines. Our current holdings include 58 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz vineyards.
