William and Elizabeth Oliver arrived from Scotland in 1839 to settle at McLaren Vale. Six generations later, members of the family are still living on the Whitehill and Taranga farms. The Taranga property has 15 varieties planted (the lion's share to shiraz and cabernet sauvignon, with lesser quantities of chardonnay, chenin blanc, durif, fiano, grenache, mataro, merlot, petit verdot, sagrantino, semillon, tempranillo, viognier and white frontignac). Corrina Wright (the Oliver family's first winemaker) makes the wines, and in 2016 the family celebrated 175 years of grapegrowing. Exports to Canada, Hong Kong and China.
Six generations of stubborn, competitive growers and one equally spirited winemaker- that’s the Oliver family. Living smack bang in the middle of McLaren Vale, they flourish on producing perfect parcels of fruit on their 100 hectare ‘Taranga’ property. Their collection of small batch, handcrafted wines speak of both the variety and vintage, capturing a time and place, while continuing to document the family’s ongoing 180 year relationship with the land.
Shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, fiano, vermentino, mencia, tempranillo, grenache, sagrantino, touriga.
The ‘Workers Cottage’ was built on the Oliver family property ‘Taranga’ in the early 1850’s. During 2006/07 the cottage has been restored by 5th and 6th generation Oliver family members plus many, many helpers. The face of Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards is located on Seaview Road in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Various paid tasting options.
