Mary's Myth

This is the as-yet small venture of 3 childhood friends: Alister McMichael, Evan Starkey and Millie Haigh. Alister grew up in the Adelaide Hills in the late ‘90s and after finishing his studies headed to the Mosel Valley to absorb Old World treatment of riesling. Next was the northern Canterbury district of NZ where he was exposed to minimalistic vinification approaches plus biodynamic and organic inputs. Then he was off again, this time to the very cool Finger Lakes of Upstate New York. While the primary purpose was, of course, to continue the pursuits of riesling, he also observed the making of pinot noir and cabernet franc. Back in the Adelaide Hills, Mary’s Myth was conceived; the name inspired by the discovery that each of their grandmother’s names was Mary. -JAMES HALLIDAY
