Challon and Patricia Murdock began the long, slow and very frustrating process of establishing their vineyard in 1996. They planted 1.8ha of chardonnay in that year, but 50% of the vines died. Instead of deciding it was all too difficult, they persevered by planting 1.1ha of pinot noir in 2000, and replanting in '01. In '05 they signified their intention to become serious by planting shiraz, nebbiolo, sauvignon blanc, viognier, tempranillo and pinot grigio. Those vines are now mature, with the nebbiolo, in particular, proving its worth.
