The Birthday Villa name comes from the 19th-century Birthday Mine at nearby Drummond discovered on Queen Victoria's birthday. Gewurztraminer (1.5ha) was planted in 1962; cabernet sauvignon (0.5ha) followed later. The quality of the Gewurztraminer comes as no surprise, as the very cool climate is suited to the variety. On the other hand, the Cabernet Sauvignon comes as a major surprise, although cool vintages provide a challenge.
Birthday Villa is a boutique vineyard located in the Macedon Ranges Wine Region in Victoria.
The vineyard was established in 1976 with plantings of Gewurztraminer
and Cabernet Sauvignon, which produce award winning wines.
Built in the 1870's from gold discovered on Queen Victoria's Birthday the villa has old world gardens and views of the historic Malmsbury Viaduct.
