Our Review
The Rahona Estate vineyard was planted in 1991 and is one of the more interesting small vineyards on the Mornington Peninsula, on a steep north-facing slope of a secluded valley in the Red Hill area known for its ancient red basalt soils. The Pinot Noir is produced from a single 4 acre vineyard, consisting of 5000 close-planted vines. Rahona Valley also produce sparkling wines made in the traditional method. Toby Pieters and Dianne Gardiner made a 'vine change' to Rahona Valley in July 2014, moving from an inner city suburb of Melbourne to Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula. -JAMES HALLIDAY
About
Rahona is driven by a passion for cool-climate wines, with a particular love for sparkling wines.
Our approach to winemaking is focussed on combining expertise, the best equipment, and facilities to create premium wines from the premium grapes from cool-climate regions. Based in the Mornington Peninsula, we have recently expanded our portfolio to include Tasmania.
Our focus is on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay for sparkling wines, complimented by other cool-climate varieties including Riesling, Pinot Gris and a few interesting blends.
We (Toby and Dianne) started our journey over 8 years ago, purchasing one of the smallest commercial vineyards on the Mornington Peninsula and working with contract winemakers, we decided we need to take control of their winemaking and started working with Chief Winemaker Natalie Fryar. Since then, we have invested heavily in sparkling expertise and production facilities to ensure we produce wines we are proud of.
Sustainability is key part of focus for Rahona Valley from grape growing through to winemaking, energy efficiency and minimising waste, we recognise that we all need to play a part in securing our future.
