The Fisicaro family continues to own and run the business that was founded by the late Joe Fisicaro. The name comes from the rolling dune region of the Peninsula known as ‘the cups country'; the soils are light, with relatively low fertility, but drainage is excellent. Wind and frost have been problems, and the composition of the vineyard has been somewhat modified by a grafting program placing more emphasis on early ripening varieties (pinot noir, shiraz, pinot gris, chardonnay, merlot and moscato).
The Cups Estate is a boutique vineyard, olive grove and cellar door situated in Rye on the Mornington Peninsula. The vineyard is planted on the sandy soils of ‘the cups', an area known for its picturesque and undulating sand dunes.
The Cups Estate specialises in producing hand-crafted wines that represent the true characteristics of each grape variety. The 15-acre vineyard overlooks Moonah Links Golf Course and the surrounding 'cups' area and the cellar door is perched high to take advantage of the spectacular views.
The multi-award winning range of wines include Sparkling Blanc de Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Rose, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Shiraz and Fortified Pinot. The cellar door is open 7 days a week from 11am to 5pm for wine tasting and sales.
The Cellar Door Restaurant offers delicious a tapa's menu inspired by the flavours of the mediterannean and designed to enhance the wines. The Restaurant is opened for Lunch on Friday's Saturdays, Sunday's, Every Day in January and extended during other holiday periods.
